Biohazard Cleaning

A biohazard (biological hazard) is any biological substance or material that poses a risk to the health of living organisms, or the environment.

Whilst some of these are well-known, there is a wide range of biohazards that we consider whilst working. This includes microorganisms (bacteria and viruses, fungi), animals and their by-products, as well as natural and synthetic toxins or chemicals, and their packaging.

• Human bodily fluids and body matter (blood, urine, faeces, saliva)

• Airborne pathogens (bacteria & viruses)

• Animals and/or their waste (urine & faeces)

• Moulds, yeast & fungi (including their spores)

• Pests and insects (e.g. flies, cockroaches, mice, rats and their waste)

• Sharps and substance abuse paraphernalia (from household items like screwdrivers, gardening tools and knives, to broken glass and needles - anything that can break skin and pose a risk of infection).

Biohazards can be present in a property for a number of reasons, for example:

Medical episodes

Where a medical issue has resulted in bodily fluids or matter being spread. This may be a regular occurrence, or a one-off incident.

Accidents or other trauma

The long waiting times at A&E departments attest to one thing - accidents are commonplace. When one occurs at home or on your premises, biohazards may be spread.

Crime

Especially violent crimes, such as assaults, home invasions or murder. This may also include industrial accidents. All are emotionally distressing and overwhelming for everyone involved, which is why it’s important to have an experienced, discreet and compassionate team like ours on hand.

Suicide

When someone you know dies by suicide there is a great deal for you to cope with. This a distressing time, and the difficulty posed by cleaning up after such an event can compound the initial trauma.

Unattended Death

An unattended death occurs when a person passes away on their own, and isn’t discovered for a period of time. Often this can be for days, weeks or even longer. It is a distressing occurrence, and it’s the family, friends or landlords of the deceased who are inevitably left to organise the necessary, but traumatic, clean-up process afterwards.

Disease Outbreak

Homes and businesses can be affected by known viruses and bacterial infections such a norovirus or, most notably, coronavirus (e.g. Covid-19), or be symptomatic of something unknown. Disease decontamination or viral decontamination includes touch-point disinfection/sanitisation as well as using techniques like ultra-low volume (ULV) fogging to effectively disinfect the air and all surfaces.

We complete risk assessments and method statements before every assignment. Using specialised cleaning solutions and equipment, we remove all trace of biohazards, leaving the areas safe for use.

We provide our services to private households, businesses, councils, housing associations, and more.

Any items damaged beyond repair (e.g. where fluids are engrained in a porous surface) are disposed of in accordance with Environment Agency guidance, and all waste produced whilst cleaning is removed.

We do not provide regular cleaning services, and hold our diaries for emergency cleaning needs such as biohazard cleaning. This means that we can assess, attend and resolve biohazard incidents quickly - with a typical response time of 4 hours.
